Final Collection Of Images

I chose six images to display as a collection that follow a story of happiness and freedom, in the'heart' of the woods. I have played with the effects I talked about in my research on the images. I played with the levels and brightness and contrast of two images, put a haze of red over two images and put the other two in black and white with hightlighted areas of red. I feel they all work well together and I am happy with the result.

 

Photoshoot!!

I chose 'Look 1' for my model to wear. All the layering worked really well into the Winter theme and I felt it would show well on the photos, my model also pulled the outfit off well. I decided to also tie a red chiffon scarf into a bow around my models head, this would stand out in the images. I took her to the park where we began moving around to different spots to try out different scenery and poses. I wanted her to look happy and free as they were what I was trying to express in the images. I feel that I came out with a lot of images that worked well; I have placed a selection below.

 

 

 

I tried different areas of the park and a mixture of different places will work well together in a selection of six.

Styling

I have chosen to style my model in a winter appropriate way to match the outdoor setting; a country/outsider look. Lots of brown tones and plenty of layers, a slight modern vintage feel the the outfit.

I have come up with two looks based around this trend, below are some sketches. 

This is my first look which I have put together. It is made up of four layers plus either the fur gilet or tan mac over the top for some shots. It is basically brown leggings with a short, brown floral patterned dress with a full skirt over the top. I then placed a pale green shirt over this and left it open and finally placed a beige knitted waitcoat over that before puling it all together with two brown belts around the waist. Chunky ankle socks are worn underneath brown military boots. This is the look I am hoping to use.

I also put together a second look so i could have a better choice and could see what looked better on the model. This look consists of brown tweed, high-waisted, paper-bag top shorts with a simple shirt tucked in and a chunky boyfriend fit cardigan over the top. There is also a tan coloured snood wrapped around the neck and stone coloured knee high socks worn inside brown military boots.

Map Of Chadderton Park

Before taking my model down to the park where I had decided to do my photoshoot, I went myself to take a look at the surroundings and areas which would be nice to take photos. Below are some of the images.



I liked the look of placing the trees in the background with the light coming through the gaps.

Also there are a few areas in Chadderton Park where there are rivers, streams and waterfalls. These will look nice in the background of an image along with the trees and greenery.

There are quite unique, quirky areas to the park such as this small nridge in the middle of woodland. Shots on this could look quite interesting aswell as placing it in the background of a shot.







The use of light and dark in images will also add to the effect, for example this picture is quite dark however the bright light shining through the trees brings the shot to life. 



Fashion Photographers

To find more inspiration and look at proffesionals work I looked into a few fashion photographers.

Trever Brady:

I liked the look of Trevor Brady's work. I like how he uses the location and setting to maxinise his shots, they tell a story and it makes you think what the image is about. However you never loose any of the styling in the shot. His poses and expressions of the models are well thought out whilst his photos look effortless.

 

 These images are all shot outside and although they are not all in woodland, they can give me some idaes for my photoshoot. They show me good poses to use and how to keep the outfit strongly in the shot.

 



James Nader:

Another photographer which I looked at is James Nader. I like how he uses black and white and lighting to enhance the colours and mood in the photographs.

 

 

Black and white has to be used in the right way and here it is used to set an atmosphere. Also his brightness and contrast adds to the intensity of the images. I also like the yellow light added to the image above right, it is similar to my idea of using the right hint over some of my images.

Settings & Props

As a setting I would like to use some sort of forestry as a background. There is a park nearby, Chadderton Park, with many different sections that woukld be interesting to work in. I feel that because of the nature and the fact that it is a public place where anybody can visit shows the idea of freedom. The poses and expression in my models face and body language will show happiness. I have looked at some images outdoors and in forests for some inspiration.

 

Staying in the grounds of the park I wanted to incorporate a red letterbox into some of my photos. I feel that the traditional red letterboxs are typically britsh and links well with the organisation, the British Heart Foundation.

When I last visited London I took a photo of a girl because I liked her style and the way she was dressed, I am going to use this image as inspiration for this project; her style, her pose and the setting.The relaxed way she is posing shows her happiness. The photo is shown below.

Photography Ideas

I decided that I was going to focus on the love of life and the happiness and freedom within it. This is what heart means to me and I would like my photographs to potray this story.

After looking through magazines, books and websites etc to get some inspiration, I have come up with a few ideas for my final shoot as well as location and styling.

Black & White/Red:

One idea I had was to take my photo and then using photoshop make it into a black and white image with hightlighted sections in red like the images below.

 The section which is hightlighted red could be alot less prominent than the images I have shown here. For example, my models shoes could just be red or a scarf in her hair.

The section highlighted could be the most important section of the image so that your eye is drawn to that area, however it could be the opposite so the viewer completly misses the story behind the image purposely.

Red Hint:

Another idea I had was to take a normal fashion image that portrayed happiness and freedom and then edit a number of them, placing a red hint over the whole image. I have tried this technique out with an existing fashion photograph and I feel it has worked very well.

Using this effect adds a positive feel to the image whilst making it more vibrant and eye-catching.

Red Fashion & Inspiration

I began to look through fashion magazines to find red images and red fashion as a starting point for inspiration. I found alot of images that grabbed my attention which I collaged together and are shown below.
Red is a very bold colour it whatever shade and can be quite overpowering, however used in the right way, like in these editorial fashion shots, the models look interesting and it draws your eye in. I especially like the large image of the model in the background as only her jacket is red yet it is enough as it still grabs your attention.

I found this image of a brick wall which I loved. It has been edited to look alot redder than it actually was, however I feel that with a black and white image infront it could really stand out and grab attention.

The heart which I found made up of catwalk models shows that there are many shades and tones of red aswell as the colour being quite fashion forward.

I liked the styling of the model dressed in black with her 50's style hair and makeup teamed with modern clothing and a hint of red accesories. The red still makes as much of an impact as you are drawn to the detail.

The image of the rubies and diamonds express a certain lifestyle, they look expensive and glamourous and could symbolise how precious a life is.

I thought about everyday objects abit more and found this image in a magazine of a telephone box that had been posterised. It made me think about how traditionally British the red phonebox and letterbox's were and thst an image of something like this could show how much britain and life within it means to some people.

I also really like the image of the girl dressed in all red against the white stones and rocks she is sat on. The contrast of the bright white and red is really interesting and eye pleasing.

I found this image in an Elle magazine and found it realy inspiring how either lighting or enhancement has been used to put a red cast over the image, setting an atmosphere. This could be a good idea for my shoot as I would be including a model which would be styled however the red overcast sets the mood and helps tell a story, whilst meeting the 'red' requirement of the brief.
